The Kaplan turbine - patented by the Austrian engineer Viktor Kaplan in 1913 - is a further development of the Francis turbine. Characterised by its axial inflow with adjustable runner blades the Kaplan Turbine is particularly applicable for hydro-power plants with low heads (up to max. 40 m) as well as large and varying flows.

WATEC-Hydro GmbH is one of Germany's leading companies for Kaplan turbines, based in Unterallgäu, Bavaria. We manufacture highly advanced vertical-axis Kaplan turbines (shaft turbines) with runner diameters from 0.4 m to 2.50 m for our customers, offering comprehensive Know-how for the successful implementation of a wide range of hydropower projects throughout Europe. Over 20 years of experience and more than 330 satisfied customers of WATEC-Hydro speak for the product.

In addition to the new construction of small hydropower plants in the power range from 10 kW to 1,000 kW, we have also specialised in the reconstruction or modernisation of hydropower plants. Furthermore, in addition to formwork construction, we can also offer hydraulic steel components as well as control- and regulation technology and laser-measurements to customers. Energy for our future

Hydropower is considered the cleanest and also safest of all energy sources.

Nevertheless, the generation of regenerative energy by hydropower can still be expanded considerably at home and abroad. This can be done both with the construction of new hydropower plants (Kaplan turbine) and by modernizing and increasing the output of existing plants.

We offer electricity production by means of Kaplan turbine, where the ecological compatibility without CO2 emissions and without consumption of fossil fuels speaks for itself. The longevity of the Kaplan turbine also guarantees long-term environmentally friendly and sustainable energy production.
